Women's Championship Race
Following on from the success of the Women's 5 miles Race from 2001 , it naturally followed that a Women's Championship Race should be introduced. The first Championship Race, for individuals, was held at Brighton in March 2004, and the first Team Championship was held on Wimbledon Common in 2004. It soon grew to the extent that approaching 100 competitors now take part with the number of teams closing in sometimes reaching double figures.
From the race's instigation, Brian Boulton, a long-serving officer of the Association, presented an award for the individual winner - the Brian Boulton Trophy - and in 2009, long time Hon Secretary, Derek Crookes, was the instigator of the Derek Crookes Trophy, presented to, and kept each year as their own property, by the winning team . The winning team is that which scores the lowest total points for their first six runners to finish.
