Men's 5 miles Team Race, formerly the 'Junior' Race
Until 2004 this race was known as the 'Junior' Team Race. In earlier days, stringent barring clauses ruled out many established competitors for life, so it was 'Junior' by standard. 'A' and 'B' teams had to be entered separately and there was an upper limit on the number allowed to be entered in each team. Currently there is no upper limit on the number allowed to be entered from any one club, and since 1997 the first four athletes from a club constitute the “A” team, the next four the “B” team, and so on.
The Lister Western Munro Shield is awarded to the club team with the lowest number of points scored for the first four athletes from that club to finish (originally based on declared teams, with a maximum of eight to run with four to score). The date when this trophy was first awarded is lost in the mist of antiquity - but Messrs. Lister, Western and Munro were officers of the Association in the '30s and '40s. Investigation is ongoing.
The Brent Shield was first presented in 1994, to commemorate Alan Brent’s long service to the Association. It is awarded to the Club with the lowest total score for their first eight athletes.
The Golden Jubilee Trophy was first presented in 2002 and is awarded to the individual winner.
